I Believe~

I've gone ahead and did it again. I've fallen in love.
The wall I so painstakingly put up to guard my heart, I allowed to be torn down, brick by brick, leaving me exposed, and vulnerable...
I had shut myself off for so long; my heart a dungeon, dark corners in a neglected dwelling....
Against my better judgement, I believe...
I am caught up in the rapture of lust. An Insatiable desire...
He stimulates my mind, and body in ways I've never experienced.
I am consumed with the thought of him. Every cell in my body feels alive. An energy I have never experienced. 'Like' energies drawn to each other. As if old souls reunited, having crossed oceans of time to find one another,
dancing above our heads, in ecstasy....
I yielded to the temptation. When he looks in my eyes, I feel like he is drinking me in. I have never looked so deeply into the eyes of another person. Oh, the things we speak through our eyes. I am transported to another place, of which I don't want to return.
We 'click' in every way. Comfortable like a broken-in pair of shoes.
He is my first thought upon awakening, and last thought I have before falling asleep.
Missing him causes a physical reaction. An ache, an unquenchable thirst...
He kisses me, and I am lost in him forever~
For you, my love PC

Her Pleas

It all won't matter when she's gone
As they stand above her grave looking down
All her pleas fall on deaf ears
As they are on their knees with heavy hearts
All her tears that once flowed, their salt will now sting, the wounds they will now bring
As they sit in the pews at their church, or in their dark rooms
When they look up wondering, why?
Her cries will come to mind, and their heads will bow with regret. They will know that they let all her pleas for release put her in the ground - she will no longer be around
Only in their thoughts and dreams, they will wake in screams
Only those that came to help and love
She will comfort from above.......

You bought me flowers today.

You bought me flowers today.
You shower me with compliments.
You ask if I want to play a board game.
You send me lovey dovey texts.
You want to spend time with me.
Hover like a helicopter.
You profess your love and devotion.....................

                                                         All this and more after:

YEARS OF ABUSE.
AVOIDING.
IGNORING.
BELITTLING.
MAKING ME FEEL SMALL.
MAKING ME FEEL INVISIBLE.
MAKING ME A NERVOUS WRECK.
CONTROLLING.
COLD.
ISOLATING.
EGGSHELLS.
DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR.
BREAKING MY SPIRIT.
BREAKING ME DOWN.
BREAKING MY HEART.
                                          BUT!..............................
BROKEN OPEN.
                  TO LET THE LIGHT IN.
                                                          I WIN.

Stupid Girl.

One of my favorite movies is 'Shawshank Redemption. There is a scene in the movie where one of the characters, 'Ottis 'Red' Redding', is up for parole after serving 40 years in prison for a crime he committed as a young kid. When asked if he felt he was 'rehabilitated', this was his response:

Redding: There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then, a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I wanna talk to him. I wanna try to talk some sense to him -- tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I gotta live with that.
I was reading my best friends blog this morning, 'Insufficient Mums', and her latest post titled 'Scrot Mother', had me thinking about my life, and choices. Had me thinking about how I got to where I am now, and had me dreadfully wishing I could go back. Go back to when I was a young, stupid girl. Like Redding, I want to go back. I look back on the way 'I' was then, a young, stupid kid who made poor choices. I wanna talk to her. I wanna try to talk some sense to her too - - tell her the way things are. But I can't. That girl's long gone and this old woman is all that's left. I gotta live with that.
I want to go back. I want to tell that girl that was sitting on her boyfriends back porch, crying, when she realized it was over, that she would be okay. That it wasn't the end of the world. That I didn't realize that my self worth, which I was so lacking, didn't come from him, but from within. I want to tell her to not give up my dreams and aspirations for anyone. That any man that loved me, REALLY LOVED ME, would support, and encourage me in my dreams. That I should listen to my mom, and grandfather, and go to school to pursue my dream to be a nurse. Or singer. Or 'Cruise Director', like Julie McCoy, on 'The Love Boat'. (glad I didn't choose that one...I get extremely sea sick!) I was full of 'Wanderlust'. I had so many dreams. Dreams I gave up. I allowed men to squelch. With their insecurities. With their 'NO'. I allowed my rose tinted glasses to be removed, not by me when I was ready. No. They were blown off my face. I have to live with that, too.
I wanna go back. I wanna go back to my home in Maplewood. To a simple time. To my room. My little world. Feel that again. Feel that energetic, fun-loving, out-going, risk-taking, sometimes reckless, young girl again. Dancing at family gatherings in my white 'go-go' boots, young girl. Fearless, and fanci-free..... My grandfather made home movies, capturing those moments. I can't watch them. Not now. They rip my heart into shreds. I am happy they exist. So that I know my memories are true. That they aren't some made-up fantasy, I conjured up. They are real. But they make me sad.
I want to get up off that back porch stoop, get in my car, drive to the college, and sign up. I want to be the woman that pursued her dream. Has self worth. Be the woman I would want my daughters to emulate. A good role model for them. Instead, I went out. Hungry. Craving to feel full again. Whole again. I thought I did. With the first man I met, an alcoholic (surprise, surprise) at a bar, getting in with a fake ID I had been given by my neighbor. That I married. I was pregnant. I realized too late that it was wrong. I want to listen again to my mother, who told me I didn't have to go through with it. She'd come, pack up my stuff and take me home. I didn't listen. I wanted for it to work so badly. It didn't. I managed to leave. With two young daughters. They were my life. I did not want them to live the life I had. I wanted to show them what a strong woman looked like.
Life was so messy. I put myself through Cosmetology school, while working nights as a bartender. A part of me became a bit of a rebel. Newly divorced, from a controlling, alcoholic. I was free. But, it was harder than I thought. Problems didn't magically go away once I divorced. They magnified. I just couldn't seem to get out from under the black cloud that seemed to follow me. One of my daughters began to exhibit behavioral issues. Everything was a battle. I lost my best friend. The blow was devastating. It took me a very long time to recover from that. The rejection was gut wrenching. The only escape I had was working at the bar. I was receiving attention from so many men. That made me feel worthy. Beautiful. Wanted. Adored. Lusted. But still empty. No amount of men, or sex, or alcohol, could fill me up.
I married again. A man I met while working at the bar. Any surprises here? See the pattern? Ya know, I knew. That 'still small voice' deep inside knew it was wrong. I have a bad habit of ignoring that gut feeling. That is what I wish I could go back and tell the young me. "Listen. Dammit!! Listen! Listen to that 'voice'. It knows. It really does. You can trust it. Please, Kimmy, I implore you, trust that. You can. Really."
My second marriage was the one that put me in my grave, and nailed the coffin shut. Kimmy was gone. I walked around, pretending I was happy. Any sense of self-worth I had remaining, the little I had mustered up, was gone. My mom knew it was wrong. Again, she tried. Again, I didn't listen. This marriage is a blog in and of itself, that I won't go into now. It has had more challenges than most marriages experience in a lifetime. I won't take that away from it. The loss of a son. A disabled daughter. The daily uncertainties. The struggles with my other daughters. The financial struggles. The medical costs. The slow, drifting apart. The shear loneliness. The destructive behaviors. It isn't a 'Lifetime' movie, with a happy ending.
Now, I am just a broken, old woman. Tired. Beaten up. Broken body from three back surgeries. The daily pain. The struggle to care for a growing, disabled daughter. With this broken body. Trying to rebuild. Again. Trying to spare my daughters the same mistakes. Praying they learn by my mistakes. Hoping they have it in them to not want the same fate as me, and to fight not to. To rage against anyone who would try to stop them. Not wanting them to be sitting in a bed, typing a blog about wishing they could go back. Oh, how I want better for them. I've seen glimmers of similarities, and it scares the shit out of me. All I can do it try. Try the same way my mom tried. With any luck, things will be different for them. They will have the self-worth I didn't. The self-worth I am working to have, for the first time.
It hasn't been easy, and I find myself tripping, and falling. I still seem to make poor choices at times. But, they are fewer. A lifetime of habits, and behaviors doesn't change overnight. I try to surround myself with strong women, women that have no problem telling me when they see me heading for a disaster. Year, and years of counseling have been invaluable. Sometimes I wish there was a large, blinking light above oncoming disasters, DANGER! WARNING WILL ROGERS!
I also try to remember, as C.S Lewis said, "Never too old to set another goal, or dream another dream." I will. I have to. I must. No option. No quitting. Today is a new day, and to remember,
'hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.'

Come on 2014! You can do better than that!

Last year was not a particularly great year. I had really placed a lot of faith, and hope that 2014 would be a better year. Fresh start. Good things ahead. So far, it isn't working out as I hoped it would. For starters, 2014 started off on the wrong foot. My mom's bestest friend in the world, a second mom to me, passed away. Her daughter, passed away at the age of 49 a week prior. The surviving sisters father-in-law passed away a shortly after. A friends husband hung himself. Another co-workers husband jumped in front of a train. My son in law lost his job, my daughter's hours were cut back at work, my other daughter has had her share of troubles, a family members home was broken into, and robbed of sentimental objects, as well as other items, another family member was in a restaurant while an armed robbery took place, my neighbor lost his job, my dear friends child underwent a long surgery to place growth rods, only to find out that one of the rods had broke, rendering the child in excruciating pain, that she is unable to express because she is a non-verbal, disabled child. Another friends child has been being bullied at school. I was in a car accident that has left me in a state of anxiety, I finally got my car back, only to slide in the snow, hit a curb, and ruin a tire, and rim, having to take the car back, only adding to my anxiety. Roxanne was doing very well initially after her spine surgery, but seems to have taken a step back. We will be going for an MRI in the upcoming months. I know I am forgetting something, but I think I have made my point. It's too much. Even if the people I spoke of don't affect my life directly, or on a daily basis, I feel the pain of the people that they do.
A part of me wants to crawl into a hole, and not come out. It just feels overwhelming. I try to keep my perspective, and remember the good things that have happened, or are happening. It is not as easy as it once was. I guess I am just getting older. But, today is a new day. I will only do what I can today, in this moment. I can't go back. I can't be in tomorrow. I can only be in today. It may not turn out the way I set out for it to be, but I am still here. So, I guess if I am still here, I have a purpose. What that is, I am not exactly sure, but I will continue to do my best, continue to forge forward, continue to try to ease the pain of others, to be the best mommy, daughter, sister, & friend.....even if I have to fake it to make it.

Train Wreck

I know how it feels to keep screwing up, and not being able to stop.
I wish I could go away for a while and allow time to go to work and start healing.
I'm in the middle of mud, and I am struggling to gain control; but the mud has the best of me, and my attempts are futile. I'm exhausted.
My life is a big drama with no intermissions. Sometimes, I wish for the curtain call.
Chaos...Frustration...Anger...Sadness.
I yell, scream, cry. Sometimes I want to hide.
That is all anyone knows of me anymore. Pathetic.
It is what I am known for. It is what people count on. ~Nuts~
I want to shut up and be still for so long that when I do finally speak, I will be strong, calm, and reposed. ~Placid~
No defending. No mending.
Peoples words would bounce off me, and drop to the floor. ~Bang!~
No more 'gettin my goat'. When they can't get a rise from me, what a boring subject I will be.
No more caring about others opinions, no more allowing someone to dictate my peace.
I won't allow myself to explain, explain, explain....
I'm tired of talking. It gives me a headache!
Oh! How they will think I've finally snapped! But, that is okay.
At least I won't be yelling.
Blah! Blah! Blah! There is something to be said for silence.
Observe, be still, keep them guessing. Quiet, sshhh!
Get busy being quiet.
Get busy getting it together.
Get busy getting a life.

Authentic Me...Now you're free

Authentic me I tried to drown,
I fought, fought, and held her down.
Tough was she, she wouldn't go,
but for a time she did pass out,
while the impersonator went about
living a life that wasn't me.
But, then authentic me awoke,
dazed, confused, still feeling choked.
In a life where she feels trapped.
Sad to know she can't go back.
Alert, awake, coming to,
she is wondering what to do.
Where does she go from here,
In a life that is filled with tears.
Now awake, she can no longer fake
who she truly is.
It's me! It's me! I've been set free!
She will not go, she is here to stay.
Will learn to face another day.
She fought. She won.
She will carry on....
Authentic me, now you're free.

Thanks for the concern, but....

Oh, the well meaning people. I don't blame them. I don't get mad at them. I understand they are only trying to help.

I know I should eat better. I know that exercising would be GREAT for my body. I know I should eat whole foods. Organic foods. Take supplements. I know there are all kinds of 'natural' anti-inflammatory foods, supplements, etc. I know. I know. I know! Did I mention, I know!?

What these very well intentioned people forget, rather, what they can not possibly comprehend, is the lifestyle I live having an Autistic & Epileptic child.
The sleepless nights. The endless days. Just check some of my Facebook posts. They are usually three, four in the morning, or earlier, when most of the people I know are still sleeping. Peacefully. Comfortably. With their spouse. Or lover. Or comfortably alone.

I don't have the luxury of taking time in the morning to have a 'routine' for myself. To take time to 'heat' my back, and stretch out my sore, aching muscles. Then take time for yoga, or meditation. I have most likely been up most of the night. Like last night. And the night before. And the night before that. Roxy doesn't understand that I have had three back surgeries. She doesn't understand I have tears in my shoulder. Or a herniation in my neck that sends shooting pains. She doesn't understand the strain that changing her 65lb. body puts on my already over-worked, stressed, injured body.

Roxanne doesn't understand that I stay up with her when her brain won't shut off, and I am completely exhausted. When the affects of the numerous medications fuck with her  little head. I am her source of comfort. Her 'woobie'. Her 'blankie'. I am her source of food, and life. I am her port. Her safe place. At the expense of my own body, time, energy, peace, relationships, marriage, friendships, and soul. I give it all to her. I do it to the best of my ability. Then manage to save the minute amount of energy I can muster to the remaining family members and friends, that I love, love, love!  I need them. Like air. They keep my life normal.

So, I grab the quickest thing I can find to eat. I grab my pain meds to help me get through the day with some degree of quality. So I can function, and work through the pain that has engulfed my body. "Intractible Pain", the doctor calls it. Some may find that weak. I don't care anymore. It works for me. Fast. I walk a couple times a week. And push myself to do it. I would love to grab my cookbooks that have collected dust, and make an amazing meal. I would love to take much needed time for myself and do something selfish. Like sleep. But, I am too busy changing diapers on a pre-teen. Feeding her. Bathing her. Trying to entertain her, because she does not have the skills to entertain herself. She doesn't have friends. Or play house. Or board games. Or go outside. She doesn't have sleep overs with girlfriends. She doesn't go to glass blowing birthday parties. Nope. None of that. I am grateful she still watches Blues Clues. Woe is the day she looses interest in Steve or Joe!

I know I should take better care of myself. But please don't keep telling me. I know. Wanna help me? Really? Make me a meal. Come to my house and take Roxy for a walk in her stroller. Take your vacation time to sleep at my house, in the bed with Roxy. You stay up all night with her so I can sleep. My husband has to sleep by the way. He has to work. Or we lose the little we have left. Don't tell me that I should look into services that are available to us. Did that. There aren't. Not ones that apply to us. Don't you think I would have utilized everything, and anything that is out there? But no, I won't send her away, so don't tell me to do that either.
I really do appreciate all the concern. I know I am loved, and that is a great feeling. But, I am smart. I know what would be good for me. So, thanks. Really. I will end my rant now. Duty calls. Literally.

A stranger among me.

There is no worse feeling than to have your heart and head in conflict. When you feel like you are in 'Limbo Land'. And yet, this is exactly where I am residing right now. "Limbo land."

On one hand, it is okay. I am floating along. Drifting with the current. I had to let go for now. Let go of trying to figure things out. Let go of wondering if, where, and how...

It has been said that you 'Get used to hanging if you hang long enough'. It's true. If you live with crazy long enough, you get used to chaos. I am used to chaos... Calm is a foreign state of being for me. I am always in a 'defense stance'. Waiting, and expecting the floor to drop out from under me at any given moment. It is exhausting, and I am exhausted. I once said that, 'I cried so much that I emptied myself' - that 'I felt like I had space in my heart again.' But now, I feel like my heart is just being held together with duck tape. I am a walking wounded...

I don't know if a person can change so dramatically over night. Yet, that is what seems to have happened. Can a person go from one side of the pendulum all the way to the other side over night? Swing from one extreme to the other?  I don't believe anyone can live on one side of the pendulum or the other for any extended period of time. Eventually, we all settle somewhere in the middle. The part of us that feels the most 'natural'....I don't know what the 'natural' is for him, and more importantly, I don't believe HE knows what the middle is for him. I still look at him as a stranger. I have even asked him, "Who are you, and what have you done with .....?' I wonder to myself sometimes if he really isn't him at all, but a clone of him, put in place while aliens have the real him! Silly, isn't it?! Like the body snatchers. Then, once they are finished with him, they will replace him, and I will have the old him back. The one that has caused such turmoil, sadness, loneliness, fear, anger, alienation...

I try not to be skeptical.  But I can only work with what I know. If the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, then I don't have much to work with. He doesn't exactly have the best track record. He seemed very natural, and comfortable in his misery. Which is why I am so pensive. Can a heart with so many stress fractures ever be mended? Will I ever be able to trust again?

I admit, having peace is nice for now. It isn't me this time, trying to have peace at any price. It is the change in him, allowing peace to take place. I find that for the first time in many years, I am able to let my guard down a bit. I don't have the same sense of dread and angst. I am not in survival mode. As a result, I sleep. My body telling me that it has reached its max. My brain telling me that it is saturated, and can not absorb anymore. My soul saying let go. I need the rest. A time to restore and replenish...For who knows what the future holds? This may be a temporary reprieve. The calm before the storm...

Only time can heal this Neglected, Broken heart. This Battered, and Abused soul. Only time will tell if the change is authentic. Only time will reveal what is meant to be.

Only time will tell...

Listen up Universe!

Sometimes I feel like the law of attraction does not apply to me. I have always been a very positive, fun-loving, outgoing person, who believes in the best in people, that good things can happen and do happen. I have always shared whatever I have with others, often going without so others may have. I have always stood up for the underdog. I have often given so much of myself, almost always to my own detriment....what am I missing? What haven't I been putting out to the universe? It is a mirror, right? What you put out you get back. If that is the case, is it deeds or thoughts? What the hell am I not doing right??!

I continuously have trials and tribulation in my life. I won't go without my ownership of some of it. My choices and decisions haven't always been the best. I get the consequences that followed. But, beyond that, I don't get it. I do get that bad things happen to good people. I get that some bad people go through life not suffering an ounce of bad. This has been a universal law throughout history. So many whys??!

I won't say that I haven't been given tremendous blessings. My children for instance. I couldn't have designed, dreamed up, or imagined three of the most beautiful daughters a mother could ask for. I would die a thousand deaths for them....

But dammit! I would like for just once, to not have to suffer quite so much. Physical pain, emotional pain, spiritual pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. I feel like my mind is wired for pain. My body wired for pain. My life wired for pain. It feels as though my heart has been brutalized. Stomped on. Is that where I am going wrong? I am putting out to the universe that I believe my life is about pain? I assure you, it wasn't always that way. It wasn't what I always put out, so I don't get why this is the result...

Fear. Maybe it is my fear. Not fear that I am not capable. I know I am. If life has taught me anything, it is that I am a very capable person. Strong in many ways. No, not fear of my capabilities, rather fear of how my decisions to do what I want to do for my own happiness will impact the people I love. I know that life doesn't call us to be martyrs. I hope that isn't how I come across. I just care so deeply, for the people I love, that I don't ever want to cause them pain. That hasn't always been good. By not allowing people to suffer the consequences of their actions, cripples them. In my quest to not want some of those I love to suffer from their actions, choices, decisions, I have crippled them. But, that isn't what I am talking about now. Those decisions were for others, not myself. Always for others...that has been my motto.

I need to change that motto. It needs to be more balanced. More like, "Always for others, but for me, too."...
If I could just learn how. If I could just stop worrying so much about the how. If I could just know that 'the universe',  or 'God', will take care of the rest and others...that if I could put out to the universe that I am going to no matter what, it will get the message that I am not going to take it anymore!!

Where we are now is what we hoped for then, but forgot....

Not so long ago, we used to say, "If we could accomplish reducing Roxy's seizures from the 25-50 per month she was having, to just 10 seizures a month, we would be  happy!""Wow! wouldn't THAT be great?! Wouldn't life seem so much easier then?"....

We went into the neurologist's office fully prepared to discuss a medication that had been presented to us at one time, but we declined, because it would require a hospital stay. In order to start it, Roxanne would have to have an EEG to monitor her brain/seizure activity, (during one visit, the tech was annoyed at how often she was called to replace the leads for Roxy, and became impatient with her. While trying to put them back on, Roxy became very upset, because she doesn't understand what is happening, and being held down causes her tremendous anxiety. The tech started becoming rough with her, and began yelling "Hold still! "Hold still! Stop it!", at her while putting the leads back on. Roxy was screaming, and becoming increasingly stressed. I yelled 'Stop!' I put a halt to it, told the tech to leave, lucky that I refrained from punching her, and had the nurse call the neurologist. We left the next day.), have an IV ready to administer medication to stop seizures if she begins going into status epilepticus (a life-threatening condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizure. Definitions vary, but traditionally it is defined as one continuous unremitting seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes, or recurrent seizures without regaining consciousness between seizures for greater than 30 minutes), and weaning of one of her current medications. In the weaning process, until the new medication reaches a therapeutic level, if it even works at all, as the medication is removed, it may cause seizures to start, known as 'break-through seizures'.

At the time that the medication was presented to us, it wasn't long after my third back surgery, so I was not emotionally, or phsically prepared for the stress of what it entailed, staying with Roxanne during her hospital stay. She can not be left alone at any time, and needs continuous supervision. Keeping Roxanne occupied, and entertained during a hospital stay is extremely stressful, and takes a toll on me. During one stay, I left briefly to go to the bathroom, fully believing that she was engrossed in watching a video, and while I was in the bathroom, she flipped over the railings on the bed, landing on her head. It wound up prolonging our stay, because the doctor wanted to do a cat scan. Sleeping on the chairs that pull out to a bed leaves much to be desired, and not exactly back friendly. We felt the stress of the hospital stay, the risk that the med wouldn't work, what effect all the fluctuations have on her,  the risk that if by weaning a current medication and the new medication doesn't work, may cause her to have more seizures that are irretrievable, was a risk that we weren't ready to make.

Keep in mind, that we have accomplished getting Roxy's seizures to the 10 per month (give or take) that we used to dream about. But, like anyone, we continue to try. Try for better. Try for 5. Then 2. Then 0. Her seizures are harder now. They take more of a toll on her, and she doesn't recuperate as quickly. So, although she has less, it feels worse. Much worse.Watching her suffer through them is heart wrenching. Which, is why we have made the decision to want to try anything that will help her, and stop her suffering. Including the medication that was presented to us at one time. We learned from a friend whose daughter takes the the med, that we may not have to go into the hospital to do it. With that in mind, we were more open to it.

During the office visit, after going over the usual things, her neurologist said that she felt Roxanne was doing very well overall, including seizure control, and was very pleased. We discussed the tethered spinal chord, and Syrinx, that was discovered last year. We will have to follow them, and do yearly MRI's to watch the progression, if any. She wants a current EEG, which we will try to do during the holiday break from school. When we mentioned wanting to try that medication that she suggested a while back, she said, "Why? She is doing so well. We have achieved the best seizure control she has ever had." We had thought we maxed out on her current medications, including the one that we started a few years ago, one from Canada. It is the drug that we feel has given us the best result in reducing her seizures. The 'cocktail' is the best so far. But, now that she is a bit older, she can use a bit more, so we have some room to tinker with. So we shall. And, maybe we can achieve less seizures now. My lips to God's ears!

So, I left feeling hopeful again. I was reminded that we have reached a goal, and to be grateful for it. We have room to play around with her meds. We don't have to go through the trial and error process again by weaning and adding medications. At least not now. We were saved from a hospital stay. And, her doctor told us that she was at a seminar recently with her colleague, a doctor who has also worked with Roxanne, presented by a genetic researcher from Australia, that a gene was found, PCHD-19, that appears to cause seizures, Autistic behaviors, and severe cognitive delays in girls, along with other factors. During the seminar, Dr. Goldberg said to her colleague, "Doesn't this sound like Roxanne Saxe?" Until now, we do not know why Roxanne has seizures. We've done all the testing available so far, all coming up empty. She said that this discovery, and research is so cutting edge, and we know so much more now than we did, even ten years ago. It is so cutting edge, that we may not even be able to test Roxy for it yet, but she is going to try. She asked us, "Wouldn't it be nice to know why, and put it to bed?" Yes. Yes it would. It may not change anything, but at least we would know why. And, who knows. Maybe in the near future, we will know even more....

I think I need a new bandaid....

I think one of the reasons we stay in relationships that we are dissatisfied in, is because of the fear of the unknown. The unknown may be more painful than the pain we are currently experiencing. We become so used to our situation, that even chaos feels normal. We wouldn't know what 'normal' is if it punched us in the face. We become paralyzed  in fear.
I have heard that when your ship is sinking, any life raft looks good. We grab hold to the first thing that resembles a life raft. In our minds, they are more than a life raft, they are a cruise ship. Saved! We mistakenly believe that life raft is what we are to wear for the rest of our lives, when in reality, the purpose may simply be to get us to the shore of a new life.
There is a joke about a man stranded on a deserted island. He begins to pray to God to save him. As he is praying a plane lands and offers to take him off the island. He replies that he is waiting for God to save him. A little while later, a cruise ship comes by, and offers to get him off the island. He responds the same way. A little while later, a submarine comes by and offers to get him off the island. Again, he responds the same way. Sure enough, he dies. When he gets to heaven, he asked God why He didn't save him, and get him off the island. God replied, I sent you a plane, a boat, a submarine.....Sometimes, God does answer our prayers, we just don't recognize them, because they may not appear the way WE envisioned. I think that is another reason why we stay in toxic relationships. We want to make sure we are doing the 'right' thing, and expect the answer to be crystal clear, as if God himself would open the sky, and tell us directly.
Sometimes the thing stopping us from having the life we want is...US. We stand in our own way. We get to the edge of the cliff, and stand there. Some of us feel that there is an invisible string holding us back. We don't know what it is, we can't verbalize it, we can't describe it, we just 'feel' it. Speaking for myself, I am at that cliff, standing on the edge, ready to take the leap, ready to jump into a life I know is waiting for me, and I am frozen.  Frozen because I know the fire I will have to go through to get to the other side. Doubts whirl around in my head, my emotions are all tangled, like a ball of string that is impossible to untangle. I have been thinking so much about my situation, I think I thought it to death. I have lamented for so long, only to come back to the same conclusion. I feel incredibly lonely with myself, yet I don't want any company.
There is a quote by E.M. Forster: 'We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.' That is another part of the equation. We have to be willing to let go of the life we are currently in, no matter how unhappy, unsatisfying, unhealthy, or unfulfilling, in order to make room for the life. If we could just spit it out. Spit the words out. Say it! Say it! Let them come out, even if they are clumsy, awkward, and fall where they will. Once they are out, things will automatically start to change. There will be no turning back. However it will play out, it will play out. Even if it is ugly, it is still better. Because you will be one step closer to your new life...
Yet another reason still, is the feeling of being responsible for someone else's life. You know the decision you make will alter the life of another person. Their future hinges on your decision. Knowing what that person may, or may not do in response to your decision can feel like an incredible burden. Even though you know that you ultimately are not responsible for anyone's life, or choices, or decisions, you do know that what they may potentially do that they may not have otherwise done if not for your decision is a weight that I for one, hate carrying around. Feeling responsible for someone's happiness is, well, it sucks. Simple as that.
Rip it off slowly, or give it one quick rip? Either way, there is pain. Pain. The inevitable pain that comes with change.....

Just Daydreamin...(this one is for Kelley)

Sometimes, I daydream about being alone...
I have a little white house, with a pretty front porch, Sea-foam green shutters, and a ceiling fan. Yeah, a ceiling fan...
Fluffy pillows on a small cushy couch, and a rocker....
Lots of plants, and colorful flowers: Sunflowers, Daisies, and Black-eyed Susans....
Wind chimes, and the ocean. Salt air, and soft gentle breezes....
A watering can, and a slumbering cat in the warm sun...
Billowy clouds, soft peaceful music, and the crashing of the waves....
I like flowing sun dresses, and long wavy hair...
In my mind, I'm already there.....

The Lion and the Dove....

A prayer that I believe my mother must have prayed daily:

Dear God, Give me the strength this day
to Love, to be the Lion & the Dove.....

My mother always seemed to know when to be strong, and when to let go. She has been the greatest example of unconditional, ever-lasting love, devotion, strength, and courage. I only hope to pass down to my children the same sense of security.
I have come to realize recently just how fortunate I am to have the mother I do.
Most of the friendships I have had over the course of my life involve girls/women that have very dysfunctional mothers. Whether it be mental illness, over-bearing, controlling, distant, narcissistic, alcoholic, etc., my mother is not any of those. My mother has always been supportive, available, loving.
I know that there may be some that believe we are too close. But, I don't feel that way. How can it be a bad thing to know you are cherished? How can the love of a mother and child ever be bad? I suppose love that cripples our children could be bad. I am not crippled. If anything, my mother encouraged me to spread my wings, and like a homing pigeon, I was always able to find my way back to the home roost.
It isn't always perfect, and we have our moments. The times my mother resembles anything of anger toward me, is when I am not being true to myself. When I give in. She likes that I am eccentric. She likes that I am outgoing, loud, bubbly, and vivacious. She likes that I can be, and usually am the life of a party. To see me suppress myself, in any way, for any reason, or anyone, frustrates, and angers her. To see me dull my shine for anyone, saddens her. And, the sad thing is, I have dulled my shine. Too many times. I am not sure what she deems worse; that I would allow my shine to be dulled, or that someone would allow me to dull my shine for them. Perhaps they are equally distasteful. Either way, it is time to get my polishing cloth out....I need to find my sparkle again!

And the walls came tumbling down....

'We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.' ~~E.M. Forster~~

Ever go swimming in the ocean, and get knocked over by a large wave? Your body tossed around, swirling, struggling to gain your footing, only to be dragged to the shore, completely disheveled? Sand in places it shouldn't be? That is how I feel my life is. All the time. I want to get to the shore for a reprieve, but the ocean keeps sucking me back in. This has made me exhausted. No treading water. I just don't feel as strong as I once was right now. What negative energy I used to be able to deflect, I take on. It seeps into my skin, filling every crevice. And so, I  feel a heaviness, as if I am wearing a  lead coat. Not a life jacket. I want to take off this coat that weighs me down, but the zipper is broke.

After dropping Roxy off at school the other day, I turned on the radio, and proceeded home. As I turned down our street, a song came on that brought me to a sweet time in my life. I pulled into our driveway, parked the car, and without warning, I began to cry. It took me by surprise. I did not expect such a reaction from a silly song. But, it wasn't really the song. It was the memory of a time in my life that was simple. Simple. The word does not seem fit in my vocabulary any longer.

This was no ordinary cry. It would be what could be described as a 'melt down'. My body convulsed. I couldn't catch my breath. My heart was racing. I wailed. My body slumped down on the steering wheel. I held onto it, clenching so tight, my knuckles turned white. It lasted for twenty long minutes. I cried for what was, I cried for what I thought would be. I cried for what I am afraid will never be. When I finally finished, I was completely drained. Exhausted. Empty. After a cry like that, we empty ourselves. I felt as if I had space in my heart again.

Most weekends are consumed caring for Roxanne, with my husband. We are two people trying so hard to hang on. Hangin on so we don't fall apart. Most days, we are white knuckling it. Playing 'tag team' caring for our disabled daughter. Two people cooped up for any period of time will inevitably start bickering.  For us, it's a form of communication. In some ways this is a good thing. Where there has been silence for so long, there are now words. Words that are spilling out. The things that we should have been discussing for so long, the things that we have kept silent in the chambers of our souls, have all begun to surface.

I should be happy about this, and I am, but right now, what I want, what I desire, is peace. Peace from turmoil. Peace from chaos. Peace from crisis. Peace from anyone else's demons. Peace! I have my own demons to contend with right now. I have my own dragons to slay. Those damn fiery dragons. Stupid Lizards!   I have always been the one to be strong for everyone else. I have been the glue. But, I've become 'unglued'...

I yearn for those days long ago, the simple, silly days of years past. All the things I was able to do. That my body was able to do. The things taken for granted. The dreams I had for myself. The life I envisioned for myself. All the things I wanted to do. Still want to do. My 'Bucket List' is  full!  I think that is what the tears were for. That is one of the reasons I cried so hard. Because there is a  'letting go' of the life you planned. Adjusting dreams. A surrendering to the 'what is'.

I could linger in the past if I wanted to. But dragging one foot in yesterday, prevents us from fully committing to today, and whatever the future may have in store. I don't know what today will bring. Every time I think I got it all figured out, it changes. I can safely assume it will involve devoting most of my energy to Roxy. I'll continue to do my best, give it my all, fight the good fight, and try leave a legacy to my daughters that I love them more than I love myself, and that they make today, and all my tomorrows worth waiting for. That is the 'what is' of my life.  That is, as they say, what it is. And that is, okay with me.

What's your value? (previously posted on my facebook page)

The purpose of life is a life of purpose.  ~Robert Byrne

During my consultation recently with the Orthopedic Specialist about Roxy's tethered spinal cord, the subject of the differing schools of thought in the medical community regarding the 'value' of a person's life came up. I wasn't sure exactly why he decided to broach the subject, but I do know why now,  in the grander scheme of things.  I will get to that in a minute.
There are  committees that make decisions regarding donor organs, and which person would be best 'suited' to receive it. The decision is usually made to opt for the person that has the most 'value'. The person that will be a 'productive member of society', etc. During our conversation, the surgeon told me that there are differing opinions as to what should be done with a child like Roxy. I said, 'You mean disabled?'. He said yes. He said that one school of thought is that no extra ordinary means should be taken on a child whose life expectancy is realistically shorter than most, and what quality of life would it give? What value is she worth? What will she contribute? How will she give back? I asked what HE believed. After all, this is a person whom I am about to completely entrust my child's life, to possibly perform surgery on.  I want to make sure that HE feels she has as much VALUE as any other HUMAN BEING.
His answer comforted me. He said he feels that she is a human with just as many rights as any other human. He would do his very best to ensure that he can make her as comfortable as possible, and work to give her the best quality of life. He would need an MRI first, which is risky in and of itself, as Roxy will have to be put under anesthesia, which carries with it risks, since she has delays, and is riskier for children that have delays. He said he feels it would be 'unethical' to do unnecessary anesthesia, if I am not willing to do the surgery. I am, so I will.
As he was discussing the 'value' of a persons life 'like Roxy',  I was kneeling in front of her, trying to keep her from getting out of the chair. She began pulling on my sleeve, the way she does when she wants my attention. I said excuse me to the doctor, turned toward her, and said 'Yes Roxy?'. At that, she took my face in her hands, pulled my face toward hers, puckered up in only the way she can, kissed me, and then put her forehead on mine. We looked into each others eyes, long and hard, and in that moment, she said more than any words could possibly express.
The surgeon was moved to tears. He said that was the most precious thing he has ever witnessed, and that it would stay with him forever. In that moment, Roxy showed him exactly what her worth is.....

Austin

When I found out that I was pregnant with twins, I was in a total state of shock. I didn’t believe the ultrasound technician. Even after seeing the print out that you receive, I was still in complete denial. It is hard to wrap your brain around the fact that you have more than one human being growing in you.
My mother- in- law had come with me on the day I found out. She had taken me to get my first ultrasound. When I walked back to the waiting room, she could see the dismayed look on my face. She immediately asked me what was wrong. I said, “There is two”. She was thrilled, and gave me a big hug. She thanked me for what she called a 'gift' of grandchildren. I was so dam excited, that I just had to share the news with Mark right away. On the way back to his parent’s house, Jane and I stopped off at Mark’s job. He was working for a title insurance company at that time. I wanted to tell him in person. I wanted to see his reaction.
When I went in, I asked for him. One of the girls working there went to tell him I was there to see him. I was bursting at the seams to tell him! When he came to the front of the office, I told him the news. “We are having two babies!” All the ladies in the office congratulated us. I don’t think he was able to wrap his brain around it either. He still looked like he was in a state of shock when I left.
I couldn’t wait to get back to the house to call my mother. I rushed to the phone, dialed her number at work, and waited anxiously for her to answer. When she answered the phone, I said, “Mom, are you sitting down?’ She was confused, said that she was, and asked why. I said, “There are two”. She said, “Two what?”. I said, “We are having twins. There are two babies.” Silence. She was stunned. She yelled to her co-workers that I was having twins. There were cheers in the background. The tone was set. Joy. Sheer joy.
To me, it was such a gift. Mark is an only child, and I thought was how blessed we were to be give an instant family. His parents would have two grand babies at once. I knew the chance of me having more children after this was not likely, so to give him the gift of two children thrilled me beyond measure.
The pregnancy went smoothly, nothing out of the ordinary, and the babies were, according to all the tests, completely healthy. I was huge! Seriously, huge. By the end of the pregnancy, each baby weighed over six pounds, which is big for twins, considering a single baby often weighs only six pounds. Roxy was baby 'A', and Austin, baby 'B'. That was the birth order. Roxy would be born first, then Austin would be born second.
When Austin died, the blow to my heart was so hard, I didn’t think I would ever breath again. That wasn't supposed to happen. He was fine. All along, he was fine. What happened?
I was in such a state of shock. To say I was numb doesn’t completely describe the feeling. The pain of a loss of a child engulfs you, smothers you, suffocates you.
When we were leaving the hospital, I remember being wheeled down to the front corridor, waiting for Mark to get the car. I was holding Roxanne, and then, like a tsunami, such intense grief overtook me. I didn’t want to leave. I didn’t want to leave my baby behind. I knew he was on  cold table, in a drawer somewhere in that hospital, and I just wanted to go get him, and take him home with me. My child should not be in such a place. He should be with me, wrapped up, safely in my arms. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. I needed more time. As we drove away from that hospital, a part of my heart was left behind.
My mom wasn’t sure, and debated whether or not to take his crib out  from their bedroom before I came home. I was glad that they left it. I went in to the room, shut the door, and sat in between both cribs. I wept. I did this for days. When I felt ready, I had it removed.
For days, I walked around as if I was in a fog. The grief was like a ragging horror. It abused me. I would spontaneously break out into wails of grief. I didn’t understand. I wanted to know, Why? Why did God take my baby. Why did he take my only son. I thought for so long it was punishment. Punishment for an abortion I had many years ago. One in which I felt tremendous remorse and guilt. I thought it was time to pay up. I know God doesn’t work that way, but I couldn’t help but feel that was part of the reason. I have come to know that isn’t it at all.
There is a scene in the movie Steel Magnolias, where Sally Field’s character, M’Lynn’s daughter, Shelby died, and she is at the funeral, standing alone at the coffin. The funeral is over, and the attendees have all dispersed. Her closest girlfriends notice she isn’t with them,  turn to see she is still standing alone, and return to do what they can to help her. They are trying to console her, but she is so inconsolable. Then, she begins to get mad. She is trying to make sense of why her daughter passed away. Why she went so soon. She begins to go into a rant, and one of the things she says, is “No! No! It’s not supposed to happen this way! I’m supposed to go first. I’ve always been ready to go first. I-I don’t think I can take this! I-I don’t think I can take this! I-I just wanna hit somebody ‘til they feel as bad as I do! I just wanna hit something! I wanna hit it hard!” I wanted to hit something, too. I wanted everyone to feel the pain I was feeling.
They say there are five stages of grief, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. I know them all too well. Been there enough times, and you would think going through it so many times would make it easier. Well, it doesn’t. And it sucks. It really sucks. Whether it is a loss of a child, loved one, the end of a marriage, or a break up, it still hurts. And you can’t fast track each stage. As much as you want you. If you deny the process, it always resurfaces. You will eventually have to deal with it. Pay the Piper time….
These past several years have been a continual process going through grief for me. I read a quote in the book, “The Language of Letting Go”, “My feelings have been stored for so song they have freezer burn”. It really resonated with me. I have tried to avoid the pain of going through grief, and am dealing with unresolved issues.
I also feel tremendous guilt for my other children, Kristen and Kelley. I was so consumed with my own grief, that I don’t feel I gave them the time they needed from me. No one can prepare you for this. I didn’t know how to handle it. I could barely endure what I was feeling, and pushed everyone away. I wish now that I would have crawled into bed with them, wrapped them up in my arms, and cried together. Let them have the time they needed to cry with me. To let them know that I am here. We will get through this. It is ok to cry. You can still count on me. I wanted them to know I would be ok.
They were told to be strong for mommy. How could they possibly know how to do such a thing? They were just as confused. They just lost their brother, too. They needed to grieve. They were only little girls. I wish now I sent them to counseling. They needed a place to express what they were feeling. They needed a voice. And I didn’t give it to them.
Some people may think I have gone off my rocker when I say this, but for about three months after his death, I felt him with me. I would be sitting with Roxy on the couch, when I would feel the presence of a child running around me. It didn’t scare me. It was as if he was playing hide and seek. It was a playful feeling. At first it wouldn’t bother me. But, as time went on,  he became more intense in trying to get my attention. One day, I finally said to him, “It’s time to go. It is ok to go now. I love you. Now go.” From that forward, I didn’t feel him around me. Sometimes, now I wish I do.....

Austin
Floating, floating…
Still and quiet.
So close, too late.
Gone for now, but not for always.
Did you suffer little one?
In the darkness you weren’t alone.
There were no signs, I did not know.
I can’t seem to let you go.
Confused, bewildered…
Still in shock.
Angry at God.
I prayed for you, I praised god to have you.
My only son, and now you’re gone.
My mind won’t accept, I can’t put my heart to rest.
Goodbye for now, my sweet little one, until the day we meet again.

A new destination...

Roxanne. Sweet, Sweet, Roxanne.
I hate to admit that I don’t remember the first few months of her life all that well. I was so consumed with grief from the loss of Austin, that I was just going through the motions most of the time. I never admitted this, but I was angry. Angry that Austin died and she survived. I didn’t ignore her, but it was very hard for me to bond with her initially. It passed, but I hate myself for feeling that way. It wasn’t her fault. She was the sweetest, most gentle soul. She was patient with me. She lost her brother. I believe she was grieving, too. The little brother that kept her company for so long was no longer there. Although I do believe he is with her. He is her guardian angel.
Roxanne was a very quiet baby. Not fussy. She didn’t cry very often. She did love to be held, which I was happy to oblige. When we were alone together, I would sit for long periods of time, and hold her. I would sing to her. I would talk to her. I would hold her while doing chores. What bonding we didn’t do in the first few days, we more than made up for. Having a child with seizures and Autism was not at all what I bargained for. It isn’t the vision I had for our life. In the same way you plan a vacation, select the destination, buy all the books, clothing, and necessities for that particular destination, only to wind up arriving in a completely different place, it left me mad, unprepared, frustrated, looking for a way to get back on track, and go to my original destination.
Once you learn and accept that isn’t going to happen, you have a choice. You either decide to try to enjoy where you are, and make the best of it, or you remain bitter, resentful, and even jealous. I admit, I often teeter between the two. So much of how I feel depends on how Roxy is doing. If she has a good day, I feel good. If she has a bad day, I feel sad. I have heard it said that “parents are only as happy as their least happiest child”. It seems to be a universal truth. To any parent that has overcome that, I am in awe.
I truly don’t mean to be pessimistic. I really struggle with this. Only someone living with a child with seizures could possibly understand. The daily uncertainty. Never knowing what to expect from one minute to the next. Plans made. Plans canceled. No rhyme or reason. One day she is fine. The next day is a whirlwind.  Hope seems so distant. Bubbles of joy bursted. Living with constant disappointment, not wanting to get too excited when another hour passes without a seizure. Bowed shoulders tell all.
When a day goes by it almost makes it harder. Why? Because you experience how life ‘could be like’. But you are never really able to allow your guard down. You are always living in alert mode. Waiting for the ball to drop. And, it does. It always does.
I watch my pink, bubbly, vivacious child, go from a smile to a grimace. Her body stiffening so hard it ridged. If no one is there to catch her, she falls to the ground with a hard thud. Her body jerking and shaking with such intensity. Eyes bulging, rolling back, watering from not blinking. Pink to Blue. Hands clenched. Mouth clenched, often biting down on the inside of her cheek, or tongue. Unconscious. Not breathing. Once the electric storm in her brain passes, she expels air, goes limp, and struggles to breath again. Struggles to fill her lungs with air. Such abuse.
After the seizure, she sleeps. Her little body tries to rest. To restore. To heal. To rest after what it just endured. She will be disoriented, unsteady. Over, and over. The most frustrating thing, is that she is unable to communicate with us how she feels. She can not tell me in words what it feels like, what she experiences, what she sees, or feels prior to a seizure. Only her eyes talk to me. I know Roxanne. Mommy understands. It is cruel.
Hospitals, doctors, tests, medication after medication. Failure after failure. The side effects sometimes worse than the seizures. Awake or asleep they still come. They are relentless. No rest. No time. Tired of questioning, “Dear Lord, will this be the one?”
Well intentioned people say, “Have a life in spite of”….I say, “Walk one day in my shoes.” I am sure they will never say another word. I used to get angry, but now I accept that they just don’t understand. They speak out of ignorance. Only wanting to help.
Oh just give us one more day seizure free! Please! Trying to have an as semblance of normal. Normal. I don’t even know what that means anymore. Consumed. Exhausted. Wanting time for myself. Faith waning. Faith tested. Angry at God. Again, questioning, “Why!” Is it me? Did I do something? Believing somehow my behavior dictates how bad or good she will be. If I am real good Lord, will you stop this? No.
Some days, all I want to do is cry. Cry and sleep. Cry, cry, cry, and cry some more. Cry until I can’t cry another tear. I feel as though there is nothing left in me. Sleep walking through life. A coma. Going through the motions. Doing the least of what is expected. But, that is all I have some days. I hear, I see, I am aware of what is around me, but I still can’t do anything. Anything that is, but cry....

Heart Keepers...

I am going to digress a bit here, and talk about a current life lesson I have learned.
It has been a very emotional year for me for many reasons. I have been on an emotional roller coaster of a personal kind. Not one that is typically caused by circumstances outside of me, like my daughter's health, financial difficulties, family issues, etc.
From the time I got married to my husband, I began a slow descend into becoming very isolated. My energy had been very focused on my new husband, and with becoming pregnant. A longtime friendship I had  with my best friend had become severed just prior to my marriage, which only added to my descent. My heart was broken from it, and I channeled all my energies into my new life. I made his friends, my friends.
After the birth of our daughter, and death of her twin, my only son, I began a deeper decline into depression. When Austin died, the blow was so hard to my heart, I didn't think I would ever breath again. Here I had a beautiful daughter, Roxy, and yet, the pain I was in, was more than I thought I could bear. I felt like I was sleep walking though life, and that at some point I would wake up. It is a strange feeling; joy and grief entwined. I never got the chance to fully experience just the joy. Eight months later, our life would take another dramatic turn. Our daughter began having uncontrolled seizures. The last eleven years have been caring for, and devoted solely to her. She requires complete and total care. Other life events needed my attention as well, so I have been stretched to full capacity.
I have heard many times, that being the caretaker for a disabled person, it is especially crucial to make time for yourself. I am a care taking machine. It is what I do. It is part of my makeup. I have always been one to put others first. I am the person that uses her own birthday money to buy for others. Taking time for myself is not in my vocabulary. But, it should be. I am learning this, the hard way.
Over the years, I have craved for a friend again. My husband is my friend, but I craved female friendship. I needed female friendship. I prayed to God to send me a new friend. But, in order to have friends, we must be available. We must be open to it. And we must invest time. What I didn't realize, was I had this warped loyalty to my husband, and felt guilty if my time wasn't devoted to our daughter, and him. God won't send us what we need, until we have our hands open to receive.
This year, I made a conscious decision to give myself permission to have a friend again, and to make time for her. The problem was, how do you make friends, when you're always home, when your time is so limited, are not part of any group, or participate in any class, etc?
So, I set out to reconnect with people that I was friends with, that I genuinely cared for. I have reconnected with Ro, my 'adopted' sister. I have found in her what it must be like to have a real sister. But, now that I was open to it, God didn't stop there. He reconnected me with Patty, Alicia, and brought Sharon,  Shay, and now Missy into my life.
It is the end of the year, and as we move forward, we look to the new year for new possibilities, second chances, hope for better things. I look forward to spending more time with my friends, and deepening our friendship. As I look back and reflect over this year, the thing I am MOST proud of, is the friendships that I have formed with them.
They have brought life back to life for me. They have been through this year with me, and at times, have pulled me from the depths of despair. They have added new dimensions to me, make me laugh, have allowed me to be completely authentic, and still love me. They bring BALANCE to my life, are my sounding-boards, my therapist, and most importantly, my Heart Keepers.....

How I chose the name for Blog...

I chose the name for my blog from a poem I had written. The poem is as follows:

Wonderlust and Broken Dreams
I was a fair faced child, with freckles on my nose-
I smiled with such ease, was full of life, I seemed to glow-
I looked at life through rose tinted glasses, wondelust and dreamy, I am a lot like my dad, or so it seemed.
The resemblance is uncanny, there is definately no doubt, I'm his daughter, the first child, and my mother was proud.
An event took place that changed me forever-
I wouldn't even recognize how until later.
My dad would leave, leaving behind him, a path of destruction, pain, hurt, and confusion.
It didn't seem to phase him, he had already decided, as he pulled away, I stood at the window and cried. Not fully believing that he would leave me, cause when he left I felt he took his love with him.
After the shock settled, the worst was to come, this girl would grow up chasing his love.
I'd make bad decisions, poor choices in men, have no self worth, and always give in-
There'd be a yearning inside me, a continual search, for someone to capture, and cure my hurt.
Through all my experiences, one thing has rang true:
A GIRL NEEDS HER DADDY-
to show her his love-
make her feel cherished, and know true love.
Be the port in the storm, strong, and guide her,
make her feel safe from the world around her,
let her know she's loved through and through,
so when she grows up, she'll know what to do......

My dad's leaving set a chain of events that forever changed my life. One of the biggest has been the 'perpetual search'.....
